Capital Improvement Information

A capital improvement refers to the permanent addition or upgrade to your BMR home. As the homeowner, you may request any improvement to the home, but it must be approved within the scope of your deed restrictions. Typically, these restrictions only limit the amount which you can improve the property value of your home so that the home remains attainable to another BMR households should you need to sell before the term of your deed restriction expires.

With any capital improvement, you will notify the program administrator (HouseKeys) that you wish to make a capital improvement. The City will either approve or deny your capital improvement request.

Be sure to document all capital improvements you make to the property, as this will help ensure the additions are reflected in the resale price of the home, should you need to sell. Any undocumented additions will not be considered in the calculation of the BMR price.
